Jenny Blackham

Mental Health Counselor-LP

"My love for people has helped me to create and sustain healthy relationships and has instilled a sense of passion to help others gain the same. Through compassion and kindness, my outlook on therapy comes from a person-centered approach that focuses on the here and now. I believe that working toward improved self-awareness, a greater trust in oneself, and an emphasis on self-discovery helps create a non-judgmental and supportive environment. All of this, combined with cognitive behavioral therapy, can produce effective ways to cope with current challenges as well as help one to gain the tools necessary to maintain healthy relationships with oneself and others."

Experience

Jenny completed her Masters in Forensic Mental Health Counseling at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and currently holds a limited permit in Mental Health Counseling. Jenny has a true passion for people that can be seen in her every day actions as she is committed to supporting others and aims to make an impact in their lives. Jenny has experience working with populations such as those with who are justice involved, those who have experienced substance use, and individuals who live with mental illness and other health conditions. Jenny’s expertise includes providing support to those who are experiencing depression and anxiety, those working through traumatic experiences and individuals struggling with substance use. Additional past experience as a hair stylist helped Jenny prepare to be an “official” counselor as she has her heart set on creating therapeutic relationships and progress not just superficial aesthetic ones.
